CPI training will be offered this year on the November 18 District Pro-D day, and on the February 10 School-based Pro-D day.
SD85 will be sending out an email for registration for the November 18 CPI course, later this fall (end of October or early November).
ABOUT CPI:
The CPI course is actually called NonViolent Crisis Intervention (or NCI; it was previously called Crisis Prevention Intervention or CPI); it is a certification program of the Crisis Prevention Institute.
CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention is a safe, non harmful behaviour management system designed to help professionals in any setting provide the best Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security of individuals presenting a range of crisis behaviours. Using the Crisis Development model, participants will learn how to recognize anxiety (stress behaviours) in our students (and adults!), and prevent or de-escalate a crisis situation.
CPI is a requirement for most educational assistants and other CUPE staff, and is highly recommended for teaching staff and administrators. Certification lasts two years, so those who require the certification should be taking the training in the calendar year of their CPI expiry date.
