EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES / GUIDELINES

School District No. 85 (Vancouver Island North) advertises for teachers, support staff, principals and administration staff as positions become available.

We appreciate and thank all applicants for their interest in the Vancouver Island North School District, however, only those applicants who are short-listed will be contacted. We do not have the necessary resources to retain resumes on file.

Support staff applicants, and teachers or administrators not applying online using the Make A Future  website, must complete the district's application form and submit it along with their resume and other pertinent information to be fully considered.  Application forms are available here:

Teaching Staff
(Vancouver Island North Teachers' Association or VINTA)

Internal Postings are posted on all worksite bulletin boards. All VINTA applicants' seniority and qualifications must be considered before a posting becomes available as an external posting.

External and Internal Postings - Teaching Positions


Applicants are encouraged to sign up for the "Job Alert" feature on Make A Future
in order to be emailed when we post external teaching jobs.
Teaching applicants, if not applying through the Make A Future website must include the following information in all faxed or e-mailed resume/portfolios in order to be fully considered: full resume including copy of B.C. teaching certificate, TQS card, references and transcripts. Teaching staff not applying online through Make A Future must also include a completed 'application form' (see link above) with their resume.
 
The Teacher Qualification Service website at http://www.tqs.bc.ca/ is designed for teachers working, or planning to work, in the public schools of British Columbia. The primary function of the TQS is to assist teachers and their employing school boards in establishing the qualifications of teachers for salary purposes. SD85 requires that all of its teachers hold membership in the B.C. College of Teachers: http://www.bcct.ca/default.aspx and be in possession of a TQS card.


Teachers on Call

For Teacher on Call hiring, the school district also uses the Make A Future website. You may apply on line clearly stating that you are applying for a Teacher On Call position. Alternatively, you may send your resume addressed to Katherine McIntosh, Assistant Superintendent, School District No. 85, PO Box 90, Port Hardy, B.C. V0N 2P0; fax: 250-949-8792; email: kmcintosh@sd85.bc.ca.

If you are not applying online using the Make A Future website, applicants, must complete the district's 'employment application' for teaching (see link above). 
TOC work can be intermittent, however, the district tries to keep its TOC list to a minimum ensuring that TOC's receive as much work as possible. Resumes are being accepted for all grade levels and especially the specialty areas.


Support Staff
(CUPE Local 401)

Internal Postings are posted on all worksite bulletin boards. All CUPE applicants' seniority and qualifications will be considered before a posting becomes an external posting. 

External Postings are advertised in the North Island Gazette and at the Opportunity Zone, Port Hardy and the mid-island NIEFS Job Bank http://www.niefs.net/jobbank/

External and Internal Postings - Non-Teacher (CUPE) Positions

To be fully considered for support staff employment, all support staff resumes must be accompanied by a completed CUPE support staff employment application. Your resume and application form should be mailed to John Martin, Secretary Treasurer, School District No. 85, PO Box 90, Port Hardy, B.C. V0N 2P0; or faxed to: 250-949-8792; or emailed to: jmartin@sd85.bc.ca.

Successful support staff applicants will be asked to submit to a completed Criminal Record Review Form and an employment medical form.
