It was an exciting day today at North Island Secondary School. The plans for the central courtyard and the school garden have been in the works for the past year, and thanks to students, staff, parents, and alumni of NISS, we are realizing our dream as you can see in the pictures. For the past year, the gardening committee with the help of the community, mapped out a plan to making a working garden and outdoor classroom over the next couple of years. It will include an amphitheatre for an outdoor classroom, an Indigenous interpretative garden with signage in Kwak̓wala, a food garden that the Outdoor, Food, Science, and LART classes are involved in and an art display wall. We are thrilled to be cultivating the “heart of the school’.
