A.J. Elliot Elementary hosted the annual District Cross Country Meet Wednesday, October 24th. Nearly 170 elementary and high school students (and a few adults) took part. Twelve schools were represented: A.J. Elliott Elementary, Sunset Elementary, Alert Bay Elementary, Fort Rupert Elementary, Sea View Elementary, Eagle View Elementary, North Island Secondary, Port Hardy Secondary, Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw School, T’lisalagi’lakw School, Kakotlatsi School, and Ray Watkins Elementary (all the way from Gold River).
The tykes (grade 2-4) ran a 1.7 km course while the peewees (grade 5/6), bantams (grade 7), and open runners (grade 8 and up) ran a 2.7 km course. It was a great day for the race with a few new records being set.
A.J. Elliott would like to thank all the community members who volunteered to make this event possible, the volunteers from each school who helped with timing and recording and the students who showed excellent sportsmanship in representing their schools.
