On Wednesday, May 17, 2018, it was a monumental moment for School District No. 85 (Vancouver Island North) when the 'Namwiyut "Family" Totem Pole was raised and unveiled. In addition, there was the signing of the new Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement 2018-2023 with Superintendent Ms. Carol Robertson, Board of Education Board Chair, Mr. Leightan Wishart and District Principal Aboriginal Programs, Ms. Irene Isaac. All of the communities coming together as one. Students whom carved, painted, made gifts, danced, drummed and came to celebrate the day, staff that were involved and community members that took part in lots of different capacities, will remember this day for many years to come. NISS staff and students that went above and beyond preparing for this event.
